As most of you are probably aware, the arts world is taking a big step into the unknown due to the spread of Coronavirus. Theatres, museums, and galleries across the country have closed their doors until further notice on the advice of the government.
This decision was a difficult one but one that Stagetext fully endorses, as the health of audiences, venue staff, freelancers, and members of our own team must always come first.
Over the next couple of months, all captioned shows and live subtitled events have been cancelled or postponed. We don’t currently know how long this will last but we’re looking at an initial closure period of 3 months.
If you have tickets to any upcoming events, venues should be contacting you directly, but we are also keeping our what’s on page updated with the latest information and contact details.
What happens next?
We’re doing a lot behind the scenes to help our staff, our freelancers, and all the venues we work with get through this, but we will continue to make sure that you are still at the forefront of all we do.
We are seeing a greater push from venues to release work online as they try their best to bring the arts to you at home. And we’ll be right there working with them, as providing access is more important than ever.
We want to make sure that any time spent in isolation is a little less isolating. Therefore, we will be creating regular updates to bring you the latest information about streaming content and accessible digital platforms to help keep you entertained until we can get back into venues.
How can you help Stagetext?
As you can imagine we are now facing a severe loss of income over the coming months due to the cancellation of theatre and museum events.
If you feel that you can help us out with a donation, whether it’s a little extra spare cash or the price of a ticket refund, it will go a long way to ensure that Stagetext will still be here, ready for action, when the venues open their doors again.
Please consider Stagetext during this time and you can find different ways to donate at stagetext.org/support-us
